Recently Instagram have been using the Shopping tag on the post where you can click on the accessories and shop directly from the platform. Now Instagram is working to bring more commerce to the flagship, after the launch of a standalone shopping app. Now the company is going to add a shopping tab to the Explore page which will allow you to thumb through a dedicated feed of different things to buy from the various sellers. After the launch, the sellers will get a new feature in Instagram captions which will let the sellers to add different types of stickers to their ephemeral stories so that the buyers can purchase from the stories feed only by tapping on the different things which you want to buy.
Instagram wants you to go shopping!
Instagram said that about 90 million people tap posts to reveal shopping tags in a month. And there are about 25 million businesses have Instagram accounts already, in which 2 million businesses are using Facebook for advertising. The chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg said this on his most recent earnings call.
As the first report, Instagram has been building a standalone shopping app so that the company can take an advantage of users eagerness for commerce on this platform. This is not clear when the company will launch the app as there is not a specific timeframe for when it will be available and the chances of canceling the project are possible before reaching that stage.
But still, the company is promising a significant push into e-commerce. Do you know that Instagram started testing a shopping feature in November 2016 and rolled out for this more widely in March of last year? And after that in June Instagram started testing for shoppable Stories.
So you can say that a lot has happened in a pretty short period of time, while this has been a project for the Facebook-owned social platform. And the major focal point is E-commerce, so in the coming months and years ahead you will likely see a bigger push.
Instagram is all about the buzzwords and all its graphics. There are plenty of hashtags for good measure. So I can understand the appeal of shopping though I have never used Instagram to shop for anything personally. For Instagram, it is obviously a boon industry and has to hope that the platform starts pushing the shopping incentives into the casual user’s feed.
